,By as long as this lower intake project has been taking me mostly due to the weather, I have come across another issue of concern that maybe Cristine_208 or LesMyer may have reasonability on. I was at my local junk yard the other day and strolling through the rows of cars I passed a blazer and upon looking further I found a lower intake with the fuel injector assembly intact just sitting there left side from somebody who took the motor out. This came out of a 2004 Blazer and is in pretty darn good shape, cleaner, smoother, and less pitting. The price was right only $33 for the lower intake with injectors so I had to pick it up. Ahhh Decisions, decisions. So here I sit contemplating on either stay with the old or put in the new. If I go with the new manifold I'll have to transfer everything off the old one on to the new one and obviously if I stick with the old I just slap it on. Attached are pictures of the new manifold so anybody with some input on which Avenue I should take please feel free. I'll also try to post some pics of the old manifold as well which I should already have but can't find, anyways thanks for reading and helping and have a good night, seawolf74
PS, if I stick with the old manifold; no loss as I can take back the new one no questions asked.

Seawolf74,
I'm flattered that you thought I might know something about the parts interchange. That is something that I don't know. However, I totally understand your temptation. To have an intake with cleaner machined surfaces sure is an attractive option to consider.
Of the pictures you posted, it looks like you posted ones that show a different underside of two different intakes. Is the construction different due to a heater plenum of some sort?
In the absence of restrictive government mandates, I would normally think a later part could be an improvement over the old. I do remember some discussion elsewhere on the forum about the number of tubes that are at the front of the intake inside the upper intake plenum. I think they had to do with whether or not there was an EGR valve installed or not. With the computer control these engines have, I'd want to check if the swap on your year would work.
Perhaps a call to the local GM dealer could illuminate if the later intake is a service replacement for your older one? If so, you would be good.
First thing I noticed is that you stated it was from an 04 and the first picture confirms that manifold has the late model real injectors instead of the 96- 01 poppet injectors. That is an upgrade done to better meet CA emissions and soon after installed in all 4.3's. It also appears to be post EGR. Which will be a problem on your 97 since your PCM will be looking for one. I'd stick with installing your older manifold but swap out the completely assembled injectors for the later model which are more reliable. If you were to buy that upgrade kit it's at minimum $180 w/o the bracket that holds the center piece in place.
Remove the new style one first being careful with the little locking tabs that hold the injectors in place. That way if you run into a problem of some kind your original is still unmolested.
If the new one comes out w/o a hitch then pull the old style one from you original manifold. Swap the center brackets and pop in the upgraded injectors.
I guess what we don't know is if your 1997 has already had the injector upgrade. If so you would have nothing to gain by installing the junkyard injectors. Myself I would be leery of junkyard injectors, but that's just me.
Hello everyone, thanks for the last replies I appreciate it very much. I haven't been able to be on the Forum lately and ask you guys stupid questions hahaha, cause I had to deal with a death in the family. Sometimes life sucks when it rains it pours, just like it is doing now where I live; for the past two damn days. Anyways yep that intake I got from the junkyard is not going to work but I am going to try the injectors and see what happens. Not to my surprise though the junkyard in town always has a ton of Blazers at any one9 time and I found an one LOL. It seems to be in very good shape except for when I got it home and started scraping on it to clean it up I started peeling off some metal on one of the ends. I don't know, I kept on scraping on it in hopes of straightening it out cuz I guess it might be a little Warped around that area, I put a straight edge on it when I was done and it looks flat so I think I'm going to roll with it This one came off a 2001 and it's identical to my old one, not that I think my old one is bad... there was just a lot of pitting on the sealing face and this newer one not as much. Hopefully I'm going about this in the right dirlection.

The junk yard intake.
Please keep posting. I like projects like this one. If the question is that you want a good cheap distributor, do a search on this forum for Skip White. Many on this forum have used his inexpensive new distributors with one qualification: be sure to replace the Skip White provided cap and rotor with a good AC Delco version. Otherwise, the experiences with the Skip White distributor has been favorable. IIRC the cost is roughly $55.xx or so.
