Question Keyless entry question

Hi, I have just bought another keyles entry remote for my 99 Blazer to keep as a spare. How do I program it to work on my vehicle? When I replaced the battery on my existing remote a while ago I had to re-synchronise it to my vehicle by pressing the lock/unlock buttons together until the locks cycled. Surely there must be a different procedure when adding a new remote otherwise anyone with one could potentially get into my vehicle? The user manual doesn't really make it clear so I wanted to ask some advice before proceeding.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you, I will do that.
This is a great forum - keep up the good work, there's not many other Blazer's here in the UK so I find all the information on here extremely useful.

you can use a paper clip, i dont recall the pins off hand and exactly what to do but it is super easy to program remotes, i had to do it with my 98 and my 97 bravadas, when replacing batteries, if its done quick enough you dont have to sync them they should work right off the bat
