Default Need to replace my Cat Converter

I have a 2000 ZR2 and the cat is rattling and driving me nuts.... I was wondering if someone has done this in their driveway before - and how difficult it it removing the transfer case support to pull out the y-pipe/cat and put the new one in? I don't see any other way to do it. I work on my classics all the time but everything is so packed in on this thing that it looks like a real pain - thinking about buying an aftermarket cat and just welding it in - but I'd like to buy the full replacement if it is easier.

Any comments or suggestions?

If you are doing it in your driveway, you should consider replacing the whole assembly with a bolt in replacement. If you have access to a welder and some other tools to cut the old cat out, then you could attempt a universal replacement which would be cheaper.
