Default Need some Advice

Ok so I have been having problems with my 01 Blazer 4x4 4door, Shop told me that it had to be fule pump and fule filter. (they said that was there best guess because of the low fule presher)

I was wondering if I replaced my fule Filter, and possable my gas cap (in question because there has been a lot of water at the air intake and heat hasn't worked) if this might alow my blazer to run for a little while longer.

Single mom don't have a lot of money or time and realy could use some cheap ideas I just can't afford the $1200 the shop wants to fix something they can't even garentee would fix the issue.

Thanks before hand for all your help

Low fuel pressure could be the fuel pump or it could be the fuel pressure regulator. If the shop you took it is unable to actually find the problem....time to find a different shop. Especially at a charge of $1200 to change a fuel pump and filter. I know that shops need to make money, but $1200 for this job sure seems to be ALOT to me.

Fuel pumps cost is about $300 for a GM/Delco assembly. Fuel filter is about $10. There is labor involved as the fuel tank must be dropped in order to get to the fuel pump...and that takes time. Just getting the fuel filler hose off the tank will take more time than one would think...just because they all are stuck on there. But still....$1200!!

I suggest check-out other repair shops for prices. Perhaps one of them will let you bring the parts and they just provide labor. Just DO NOT get a cheap fuel pump (AirTex, etc)...as you will have to pay to have the job done again in a short time.

Good luck to you.

Yeah, $1200 seems pretty high. $300 in parts, and if you know what you're doing, maybe an hour and a half labor? That's about how long it takes me to change out my fuel pump. Of course, I've had to get into the gas tank a few times, so I've got some practice.

Did they actually isolate the fuel pump to see the pressure was low? Just testing low at the service port could also be a bad regulator, like Lanny said. Guessing and throwing parts (money) at a problem is a terrible way to fix things!
