96 4x4 blazer, column shift. So I finially got around to replacing the heater core. Simple job, I thought. Now that I have everything back togeather, except a few dash pieces, I have a new problem. Key will not turn to off position where you can take it out, and I can not shift out of park....I did use google and found a few topics, but most where one or the other and not both. So I hope someone can help me here. Everything else works fine, car starts and all. I wouldnt really care about the key issue but not being able to drive the car, is a problem. I live in ND and work is 50 miles away....and so is the nearest town. Sooooo I really hope someone can help me so I dont have to rig it up to where I can drive it....this blazer is in mint condition and would like to keep it that way ;-)

Also thought I would mention a previous owner had installed a keyless entry/remote starter. Seemed like that guy did it himself and didnt excatly do a good job with the wiring. Dont know if that matters....

I'm not sure about a '95 but my 2002 (console shift) has a hole under the steering column just beyond the key hole. You can insert a bolt etc to release the key.
Odd they have that but it works (in my case).
As for replacing the heater core I'd ask just how much of the dash you took apart that it would affect the ignition?
Go through the steps in your heard & what might be the issue.

Did you disconnect the battery? Maybe something (remote starter) has to go through a re-learn procedure.
Also try searching in here for "key removal" etc... change the wording up as you go along.
