Default new blazer owner questions

I just picked up a 98 Blazer 4.3L 4x4 2dr. It has 189k miles and basically I know nothing about the maint. history. It seems to run and drive fine. The only issue the PO said he replaced the heater core and due to residue you can still smell antifreeze thru the vents. I don't think he fixed it..

Anyways.. other than the possible heater core job, what other issues should I look for on this blazer, I guess known problems. thanks for any help !

I will list two things that are important to check. Lower intake gasket, and oil cooler lines.
There was a post on this site recently with the same question, please search for it. Too many things to list again.

I would watch the coolant level very closely. If you are losing coolant, get a coolant pressure test done to see if you can pinpoint the leak. I would make sure the heater core drain hose is clear and not clogged or kinked in any way. The smell of coolant could be many things including a loose hose clamp, a cracked hose, or a bad heater core. But always check for the little things first. Be sure you are checking the passenger foot area under the dash for wetness. That's usually where a bad heater core leaks.
For all the other common problems, read this forum and you will see some patterns developing. Fuel pumps, Spiders , intake man. leaks, electrical problems, are just a beginning. Welcome to the club.

thanks for all the info.. I did find out the heater core was not changed so im guessing with 189k it needs it. I did find out the PO replaced the intake gaskets and new fuel pump assy. so I guess that's a good thing. Im hearing what sounds like a hub bearing just cant pin point which side...

Not too many problems with the valve stem caps on the tires... never heard of any complaints on them... but that's about it On the bright side.... parts are easy to find and cheap to buy. Bookmark Blazer Forum on your computer for diagnosis & repair procedures and you'll be fine
