Default No interior lights - no power to the sockets

I just bought a 2001 GMC Jimmy. None of the interior lights work. They don't work with the doors open, closed, with the switch on, over-ride off, etc. Also, the bulb was removed from the socket for the under hood light. I tested the light sockets with a test light but there's no power to any of them.

It's possible some previous owner removed the bulb under the hood in an attempt to stop a battery drain problem, but I don't know. There's no power to it, so the circuit was broken somewhere else.

Now that it gets dark early it has really been annoying not having any interior lights. How should I go about troubleshooting this?

Did you check the fuse? I would assume you did that first, but you didn't say, so I had to ask.

Thanks for the PDFs, I'll read those.

I looked at the fuses, but I don't know specifically which one applies. I don't have the owner's manual.

IP = Instrument Panel. IP fuses are behind a door on the left of the instrument panel. Fuse 8 CTSY LMP. If that is OK then check Courtesy Lamp Relay.

Well, now I feel stupid. I didn't notice the fuse panel on the side of the dash. I was looking at the fuses under the hood. The fuse was blown. Replacing it fixed the lights.

Don't beat yourself up over it. We all overlook the obvious once in a while.

Glad you got it fixed. 👍
