So in the ongoing saga of getting the '95 4.3 Jimmy up and running again since the 'seems like it ran out of gas' event I did get it running with good pressure; however it idles a bit rough (IAC, TPS, MAP new as are plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil and the sensor on the coil) and when you give it throttle it is obviously missing on a couple of cylinders and after about three minutes dies, gas smell, so one thinks flooding; had it towed to a shop and after diagnosing they conclude the spider assembly poppets are leaking into those two cylinders, causing misfire codes. They want to replace it for $750 but not doing that; the FPR is a couple of months old, there is a small bit of fuel in the corners when you take the plenum off but not a lot. Does their conclusion sound accurate? The fuel pressure is over 60 and stays that way throughout the running and dying cycle. Thoughts would be welcome; I am going back and forth between just selling it perhaps getting around $500, decent shape some good electronic parts on it for sure, 179k miles or finish up the work and drive it, hate to give up.

Probably just gotta replace that spider, more than likely. Common problem.

Or you can do what I did & carb it - solves many problems.

well, I wouldnt pay 750 to have it replaced when I could get the thing off Rockauto.com for two hundred and change.... Sadly I cant post a link to the catalog page since the whole thing is a flash page, but here is a screen shot of it...

Don't waste your money on the injector assembly! If fuel pressure remains above 60psi after the engine stalls, it's not leaking, (That's one of the things that the leakdown test checks). If pressure drops, it MIGHT be a leaky injector. If it holds, there are no leaks, guaranteed.

These engines are real fussy when it comes to tune up parts, especially spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap & rotor. Did you use AC Delco parts?

Make sure the spark plug wires are routed properly:

Try taking the cat out and see how it runs. That was my rough idle issue. Then I would check the expensive stuff. ;-)

Dont cut the cat, instead pull the oxygen sensor out. if it runs a little better id say its a bad cat. another way of testing it is drive it hard for about 15 minutes at night, pull over while its running and look at the cat. if its glowing any shade of red,its clogged.

do a leak down test on the fpr...you said its got 60 psi+,but question is will it hold above 55 for more then 10 minutes after you turn the key to on(dont crank it)..

Default fuel puddling

I had a similar problem with a 2000 s10blazer. Turned out to be a bad fuel pressure regulator. It was leaking fuel into the intake manifold.
The Chevy dealer where it was being fixed told me they had 4 bad fprs new on their shelf. Yes, the guy said they swapped in new fuel pressure regulators5 times!... This was several years ago.
