Default one hellacious squeak

heres the story i changed my idler pulley out today cause there has been a mild squeak and i've already changed all the other pulleys. i change it out,all goes find except for losing my 13mm socket, god dang it!! , then i start it up and it sounds like nails on a chalkboard. so i shut it off look over my work and i don't see anything wrong. well just for kicks i put the old one on. same exact noise that the new one made.

to summarize: how could the noise get worse after changing out the part? also i checked the bearing on the old one and it was sticking and had some drag to it. thats why i changed it in the first place.

any pointers?

thanks again

dave

Are you sure the 13mm socket is not stuck in there somewhere? (LOL) Maybe the belt itself?

I had a squeaking problem too, changed the idler pulley and tensioner pulley, even went as far as changing out the alternator, it turned out to be the belt, threw a new belt on there and the squeak magically disappeared. Hope this helps

I would replace the belt before swapping out more pulleys.

thanks guys for the input.

so far in the past month i've changed the alternator cause it crapped out, tensioner, serpentine belt,

figured it out today in autotech. there is a spacer bushing that doesn't cross over to the idler pulley. i took that bushing off and the squeak went away. looks like it was rubbing on the inside of the bearing.
