Default Overheated

I'm looking at a 98 4x4. Owner says it overheated and blew out the upper rad hose. He says it has oil and water messy goo in the rad but not on the dipstick. I know about the lower intake issues but does this sound more like a cracked radiator? If so what is going on when this happens?

if its antifreeze in the rad that is goo, it is also in the engine as well.
its a loop from engine to rad, so if its in the rad its safe to assume that it might be in/from the engine as well.
it could be a cracked head/gasket as well.
i would be very careful.....
