Default P1683 Code - SES Light On

I started up my truck today and was greeted by a nice shining SES light. Nothing starts your morning better... Anyways, I got it scanned and it says:

P1683 - Control Module Not Programmed
Ex: ECM does not recognize the vehicles ID, or ID is missing from the ECM, or ECM Failure, Wrong ECM, or Service Program error.

Call me crazy, but I guess its my ECM? Is there anything I can check before I replace it. Also, if I can manage to pull one out the junkyard, is there a specific type for my Sonoma and do I have to do anything special to it before I install it in the truck? Should I just say the hell with it and get one from Wait4Me?

Thanks for your response rriddle. Unfortuneltly, I would have to pay for it out of pocket. The strange thing is though, I went out to lunch and the light shut itself off. This is a little unnerving as this could be a definite sign that something wrong with the PCU or a one time thing.
