Random stalls and no starts

Some time ago I'd have a same story to tell. No code for my C16NZ engine and the engine doesn't start at all. Pretty useless. Finally I found the connection rotten at the cam shaft sensor. The ECM didn't had the feedback signal saying the engine cranks, so was giving no spark.
I'm not saying which attitude is best here. I say best if You can combine them both!

inspection of wires, connectors and hoses is a part of proper diagnosis for sure. My last misfire on the blazer was a loose spark plug wire. Didn't need a scanner for that. Also intuition about likely causes from experience or some reading plays a big part. I saw a misfire on cylinder 3 of the Toyota and why did I swap the coil packs first - because some research showed the fuel injectors don't fail often, the plugs were new and the coils are known to fail so I started there.
