Rear hatch glass problem

Ive got a 1996 jimmy 2dr. The hatch won't open, I think the latch is jammed, the p.o. Had a piece of paper wedged in the crook of the latch to keep the glass from squeaking, I think that might have fallen out, because the glass will
Move about 1/4 inch when I push the button, so I don't think it's a broken linkage problem, can anyone tell
Me how I can get the hatch open so I can better diagnose the problem.. (yeah I've already tried the screwdriver trick reccomended in the manual)

can you hear it unlocking? if not check the fuses. one under the hood 3amp and one in the dash panel. trying pushing in on the glass like your closing it and try opening it. i had it once where it wasnt latched properly and it wouldnt open. if all that fails and you want it fixed you gotta break the plastic cover on the rear hatch to access the lock.

Yeah, it unlocks, and it re latches, the tail gate is latched too, looks like I'm gonna have to do some deconstruction...
