Question Reattaching Rear View Mirror

How do you get the mounting bracket off the "stock/arm" of the rear view mirror to reattach it to the glass? I have tried to slid it off and also to depress some sort of clip but it would not come off. I tried to force it off but was afraid in breaking something.

I'm sure I'm not looking in the right place or not using the right "incantation" ...... please help me out as it's hard driving with this dangling and swinging mirror.

Step66, Took the words right out of my mouth...Also have fun putting it back on. Mine fell off after leaving it at the Phoenix airport parking lot for a week (Summer time). Never could get it really right..so when a rock from a passing car hit my windshield I said okay now I will get it fix..Na not even after a new windshield could they get it like from the factory...but its still on there now (9 yrs later) but a little lose.
