Default Replacing blower motor automatic temperature control 1998 blazer

So I guess the blazers with automatic temperature control have a blower motor with three contacts (two in a modular connector and a 3rd lone wire) and the ones with standard climate control have just two contacts in the same style two wire modular connector.

Of course the motor with two contacts is much less expensive. Has anyone experimented with using the two contact motor to see if it will work? Perhaps with somewhat less functionality?

Thx!!

If I remember correctly, when I replaced my blower motor for my 99 that has the Computer Climate Control, I found that the lone wire had nothing to connect too. It has worked fine since 2017.

You might search my build thread to see I wrote about it there. I might have posted it as a general post about this.

One thing you should do since you have the fan out is do your best to clean out any accumulated leaves or fir needles. I took out many handfuls. I removed the solid state temperature controller to get at these. You can see pics of this here: https://blazerforum.com/forum/2nd-ge...79/#post730421

I believe I was also able to get into the inlet side of the heater core from here and get out lots more using a remote grabber tool.

Default That's some picture!

Thank you! I will definitely remove that temperature controller and check under it while I have the blower out!
I guess that extra wire connects to something called a thermistor and has something to do with regulating the computer controlled climate settings. If I don't have to pay the extra $60 for the unit with three connectors and it's been working good for you all these years , then I'm just going to use the two connector one I've already ordered!

Got this Nice little blazer at an auction I'm going to clean up for my grandson... So far it runs and drives great with a really solid suspension but has the annoying little electrical problems GMs can be prone to. The front power windows don't work, there's a phantom electrical power leak that drains the battery and this noisy blower motor I'm replacing... I'll have a little time to work on it because like so many kids of his generation he's not as excited about getting his license as I was when I was 15 and a half!
