The rear calipers in my 2001 Blazer froze, and the guy at the repair shop said it was probably because of the hoses, but the hoses, brakes, rotors and calipers on both rear wheels need to be replaced. This isn't something I can afford to have them do, and I'm told it's actually not that hard to do, but I can't find any instructions on how to do it and what parts I need. I may be miss-understanding it, but it almost looks from the online parts place, that the right rear caliper is only on 4 wheel drive, and I know mine's only a 2. How do I change all of this or is there someplace that already has instructions that I'm not finding? I don't know about cars, but I am mechanically inclined, and have someone who knows how to do brakes and rotors able to help, but he's never done calipers before, and the hoses, I assume, have to be bled, but how? Thanks

Consider purchusing "loaded" calipers. They have the pads already installed. RockAuto sells them. Will make the entire job fairly easy- bleeding the brakes will be the hardest part.

BTW- the rear calipers often seize when replacing the pads on the Blazer, so replacing the caliper should often be considered mandatory when doing rear brakes.

 

quick question related to this thread topic... does anyone know if the zr2 2-pot front calipers are a direct bolt on to a reg 96 LS?

All 98+ trucks came with the 2 piston front calipers. They are not a direct bolt on to the older trucks without also replacing the steering knuckle, hub, and brake rotor/caliper arrangement.

 

Aren't the rear brakes harder to replace because of the parking brake? I was told it was much harder than the fronts, so I haven't attempted it yet
