I purchased a aluminum shaft distributor from White Machine through ebay for $50, thought I would give it a try. I have stripped out the rear cap screw threads....wonderful plastic that it is...it it working but get a cylinder 6 misfire at times due to the somewhat loose cap and the side movement in the distributor bushings.

Should have the new distributor by next weekend...well see what happens.

swanman: The distributor bolt is tight....it is the side movement of the shaft that causes the rotor to hit the cap at times.

Thanks for all the replies.

Oh I see. Mine was coming straight up. I need a new distributor cap because the piece that you put the screw in to tighten down snapped off while putting it on somehow. It's I need of a full tune up anyway! Glad to see you got everything, good luck with it all!

Do not know what year Blazer you have, but it probably has a plastic distributor housing and that is why one of the cap mounting ears broke off. Had that happen on my '95. I ended-up putting RTV on the cap to glue it in place. Worked fine...until I would need to replace the cap....which I never did....sold it with 234k miles on it.

Axial movement, (up and down) is normal. Radial movement, (side to side) is not acceptable.

Once I get the new aluminum housing distributor I am going to tear the plastic one apart...curious as to what it is that has worn-out that is allowing all this side play in 90k miles.
