dist cap

Default dist cap

took the dist cap of my 96 4.3l blazer yesterday, the terminals looked like they were oxidized cleand them up and not it runs like crap. did i do something wrong?

shoulda replaced the cap/rotor.

Carbon build up on the terminals will cause misfires. Cleaning a cap/rotor will not fix the problem, you must replace these components. Reason being, cleaning often results in removal of more than just the built up carbon. Changing the gaps in the ignition system will cause more problems than you originally had.

With ignition components, do not go cheap! Quality components cost a bit more.

You can get the acdelco cap and rotor on rockauto fairly cheap. By cleaning it you basically did the equivalent of plugging something in just enough so it arcs but not enough so it works right.
