Default starting issue. worse when cold or sits long

99 4wd 4dr 4.3 auto.

55-60psi at the test port.

ignition is all good.

seems low on fuel.

if it sits more than 8-12 hours on a normal temp day it takes usually 1-2 sometimes 3 tries to start. I'll rotate the key back off the first time it doesn't start (pump builds up pressure) and then try again.

In cold temps it takes 4-5 or even 6 tries. the other day I tried to start it after it had sat for two days and it was about 15 outside. No start at all even with trying some starting fluid after the 10th try or so. Came back later.......shot of fluid and it fired up after two tries, but the temps had warmed about 10 degrees.

I've taken to starting it up before bedtime and running it a bit. Next morning 7-8hrs later it starts up 2nd or 3rd try. If it sits less than 8-12hrs even in cold weather it generally starts up pretty quick - usually on the first crank.

I've got no driveability issues that I know of. Power seems good for a 200,000mi truck.

Help....this is really annoying.

someone once suggested the plastic lines on the spider were leaking and/or the injectors are about used up. I don't know how to quantify that and determine this is the problem. I don't want to spend money on a spider and then it be something else.....

Default

Could be the FPR or the feed lines on the spider. I just got done doing a Fuel Pressure Regulator on my 95. Symptoms were :

- Running rich (could smell it at the pipe)
- Randomly hard to start unless you pumped the gas
- Random engine code for rich O2 sensor and random misfire code

Took the intake off of it to get to the spider and you could see where it had been leaking. If the passenger side is clean with gas pooling in the bottom of the intake it is the Fuel Pressure Regulator (part was less than $50). If it's on the right side under the plastic tubes, it's the plastic lines coming in.
