Steps to replacing an AC Compressor
I'd like to do as much of the work as I can but I don't have the proper HVAC tools to evac the system and keep it under vacuum for an hour as well as flushing the system.
That said, I'll have to take it somewhere for those steps. I have a reman'd compressor, a new accumulator, and a new orifice tube.
What I'm not sure of is the process, would it be fine for me to vent the refrigerant in the system, swap out the old parts with the new, then take it for an AC service? Or should I have the shop evac the system then take it home to swap parts then take it back to complete the service?
I want to do as much as I can myself for cost reasons but I want a shop to do the necessary things for a system that works well and lasts.

This my friend is what you call a real can'0 worms.
By law anything labeled as refrigerant can not be knowingly vented into the atmosphere . Must be captured recycled or destroyed.
Now what we use in some cases is labeled as a refrigerant or a propellant (air horns and some paintball guns also some small hobby spray paint applications). Perfectly legal to discharge, 134a used as a refrigerant and "Knowingly discharged is a death penalty charge"
Just went through this last spring. I don't even feel comfortable speaking of it on the open board. PM me and I will hook you up.
PS remember I said "KNOWINGLY DISSCHARGE"
