Question Stupid ? maybe

TodAy while working on my Jimmy I noticed the charcoal fuel canister is missing.Now I have had this apart for so long I dont remember if for some stupid reason I took it off or if it was just not there when i purchased the vehicle.Will the engine run without it or do I have go out and get one?Thanks.

Did you buy it not running? It should run without it, I think, I dont deal with emissions crap. But i think the only thing it would do is throw a CEL

Yes, it will run without it, and yes, it will set a DTC and turn the SES light on. It might be a good idea to disconnect the electrical connector on the purge solenoid so it doesn't suck dirt through the line and into the engine when the solenoid is activated. The purge solenoid is located on the intake manifold.

Default Vapor canister

Well I seen where the lines was plugged off so I think the previous owner removed it.It was running when I bought it and there so many codes under the check engine light Im surprised the thing was even running.I should be able to find one in a local junkyard.Thanks for the replys

FYI, there are very few DTC's that will cause a no-start condition, crankshaft position sensor is one of them.

I can vouch for the cps fault, had one go out on me 300 miles into a 960 mile trip.
