1998 jimmy 2 door rear ujoint gone bad after almost 210000,any joint from auto zone or ?,,,your thoughts?

 

I got a greaseable u-joint from Napa a few years back but can't recall the brand name of it. It is nice to be able to grease the u-joint every time I lube the front end, which is every oil change. Autozone probably carries one.

 

probably getting moog from advance,,,wondering if original joint held the same as replacement...thinking i saw some sort of plastic clips??

 

Spicer supplied the original equipment. Still available.
The shop that balanced my driveshaft in 2025 replaced the U-joints with Spicer's..

 

looked in the service manual, some had nylon injection in stead of clips, showing

some fancy tool used to disassemble...instead of heating them up and melting

 

For me it is interesting to learn that there is a special tool to remove factory U-joints. I don't have the tool, so I heated the joint with a propane torch until the goop ran out of the hole.

On one occasion I used a Spicer U-joint, and another time I used an AC Delco Professional u-joint. Both u-joints have grease nipples.

 

and i really dont understand how that tool worked....does it matter...no

 

The cross-drilling necessary to get grease to all four bearings from the single zerk weakens the U-joint.
Not a good idea for a truck or off-road capable vehicle like the Blazer.
