Default Tach signal = Crazy

Diving with a few friends to an event we had planned for a long time, my 01 blazer failed me at the worst time. Suddenly, while driving with cruise control on the highway, the tach siganl started bumping up and down from 0-6000. Engine stalled, pulled over. Tried to start- nothing. Checked for spark- nothing.

Is there any thing thats typical to fail on these engines? My friend suggested the spark control module.

Thanks again

The fact that the tach was jumping, I would suspect a failing ignition switch.

Is your security light on as well?

Any stored codes?

As soon as i looked under the hood when it wasnt 4:30 in the morning and raining, i noticed the main part of the harness coming from the PCM is touching the air injection pipe and has melted away a good bit. By the way the harness is molded its been there for quite some time, and just now got bad enough to really cause issues. Im certain this is the problem.

Thanks again.
