The tires listed on the door sticker, are the size and recommended inflation pressure of the vehicle manufacturer. The vehicle manufacturer picks a happy medium between acceptable fuel mileage, and a smooth ride. Tread life being the least of their concern. If you want the best possible tread life and fuel mileage, always go by the maximum pressure listed on the sidewall of the tire. If the vehicle is not fully loaded, decrease the maximum psi by ~10%. If you overinflate a tire, the center of the tread will wear prematurely. If you underinflate it, the shoulders will wear prematurely. If it rides too hard for your liking, decreasing inflation pressure is not the answer, get tires with a lower ply rating.
