If it were my vehicle, I would just take that ball out. I'm not worried about anybody siphoning my gas, or rolling over while pumping gas (the only time the cap is ever off). But it is a safety device, so I recommend replacing the filler neck and leaving it in. Just out of curiosity, what kind of gas do you use? Does it have ethanol in it?

Most regular fuel is 10 percent ethanol and I tend to buy it at Sam's club. Only time this happened was when I replaced the filler as a preventive.

I just wonder if Spectra (or whoever makes it for them) doesn't test with ethanol. I'm guessing the OEM ball was made from better plastic.
