Default What do you guys think of this

2 weeks ago took the blazer(1995) into the shop slipping like the clutch was worn out (clutch only 4yrs old), told them to:
- install new Transmission filter and do a flush(transmission is only 5yrs old) I decided to go the shop route after reading the headaches people had here on forum about getting those blasted Transmission pans off/cross member removal, etc.

The next day they phone
I go in to pay the $200, and ask how "removing the pan went"?
He says "oh we don't like to take apart the transmission,in the event of screwing something up,but we flushed your tranny and put some detergent in it"

I could believe this stupidity!!!!..isn't this like me saying i don't want to screw up the engine so i will only change the motor oil but LEAVE the dirty fram in place?

I bit the bullet, took the risk bought a 15mm deep socket(cross member) and just did the bloody job myself, and YES through all of this i can pass along some valuable knowledge when it comes to a 1995 blazer. Take the cross member off, leave old seal in &
leave the 6 exhaust bolts alone,,drain trans oil, after draining, eyeball where the pan gets hung up on the exhaust, take a 2-3ft (2inch thick) like pry/leverage bar, brace it against bottom of bell housing area, put otherside against close to Y area of exhaust and give a loving decent tug, indenting the exhaust just a hair,NOT to hard depending on the age of exhaust system or it will crack(about 1/8 of so inch),NOW you have JUST enough room for dropping the pan!

Needless to say i will n-eve-rrr shop at that shop again!
P.S. i should also note IF i just left the tranny alone it would have been junk real quick leaving that dirty filter on it(lots of sludge in there, BUT now it runs as it should!)..what a dam scam for 200$!
Sorrry for the rant but this was so elementary in mechanics to me what they did.

You could pulled up to a shade tree & had a crack head do about the same thing except it wouldn't of cost so much. Boy I tell you, they are an automotive shop?
