What sensor is this? and why would the truck run with out it?
some background, just had a guy put in a junk yard 4.3 because the orginal was blown. I have an oil leak and in the search for the leak found this sensor just sitting on the distributor....
any ideas, Thanks, Steve

oops...that goes into the back of the block behind the distributor. It'll be a pain to get to with the distributor installed. I'm not sure what the sensor is but it goes behind and below the distributor on the upper drivers side of the block right behind an oil pressure sensor.

Cool...i'm thinking it's the knock sensor...because i searched "knock sensor" and it's in the same location you described.
Would oil leak out of the hole the sensor is suppose to be??? Is the distributor easy to remove?

Knock sensor.
No, oil will not leak out of the hole. It is just a blind hole drilled into the block.
About the distributor, if you mark the position of the rotor before you lift and its final position after you have lifted it out, it is not all that difficult. Get it off by a tooth and try to start the truck and you will have some fun!
