Sounds like you've got it. If it holds 28" for 30 minutes with the valves closed, fill her up.
When the valves are closed, the gauges will indicate absolute pressure in the system. If you open them with the yellow hose exposed to atmosphere, the system will suck atmosphere in VERY quickly, and the gauge will indicate zero.

Due to problems putting radiator back in and then holiday, I did not get to charge until this am. Pleased to say everything went great and now I have very cold air. Used GM's chart for ambient temp and humidity and got the pressures they say and also the center vent temp -- 46 deg!!
