Default Will engine perorm right with out cat

Some nice guy stole my cat while I had my car parked where I store my car hauler. Cut it off with a sawzall. He got em off every car in the yard. [:@]Trashed my o2 sensor wire's too. But I just unplugged what was left. I put a piece of pipe in it for now. I can't afford a new cat at the moment. The car is running a little low on power it seem's like. I've had people tell me with the o2 sensor gone, it will run rich. The guy at a local shop said if the front sensor is gone it will effect performance. But mine is the rear sensor that is missing. He said it should be fine, other than throwing code's that don't neccesarily mean anything. What do you guy's think. Should I try to replace it asap, when I can afford it. Or will it be all right. Thank's.

Default RE: Will engine perorm right with out cat

Do to federal regulations, you are required to have a functioning catalytic converter on any vehicle equipped with one from the factory. I would file a police report to get some documentation and then replace it when you can.

The aftermarket catalytic converters, while they do not last as long as OEM ones, can be purchased for around $60 for a universal.

As far as the O2 sensor is concerned, it is fine to run without the rear sensor so long as you do not mind the check engine or service engine soon light being on.
