Thanks for the vote of confidence. I thought the permatex stuff would work, but it didn't adhere at all. My question about the application is, do I just put the black stuff in the slot on the weatherstrip itself, and also on the slot/ridge, on the car itself, or do I put some adhesive above the slot on the car itself as well? Second, should I clean the car and the weather strip with some denatured or ethyl or isopropyl alcohol before putting all of this together or use some other kind of cleaner? Thanks again for all your help and guidance through this process. Hv a gr8 day.

Yes, put in the slot in weatherstrip and then put small bead on ridge on body . Once it is installed you won’t really see any of the adhesive . It will get tacky and when you push it together press it into place and it sticks. I clean everything with 91% isopropyl alcohol ( like from the drugstore ) first , it cleans well , dries quick with no residue and doesn’t really hurt paint.

You do know that you have to get the weatherstrip in place before the adhesive dries? Only do a short section at a time. Don't try to clean the cured RTV off the weatherstrip. Whatever solvent will take off the RTV will probably ruin it. Just wipe both the body metal and weatherstrip down with 90% IPA (not 70%) like lexblaze says, let it dry, and stick the weatherstrip on with the weatherstrip adhesive. It will stick to the RTV just fine. It will stick to everything. Don't overthink this. Your only other alternative is to get a brand new weatherstrip to work with that doesn't have RTV stuck to it. RTV was simply the wrong stuff to try to use.

In hind sight, it would have been best not to remove the entire weatherstrip, try to clean off original adhesive, and re-stick the entire weatherstrips. Next time just squirt a little weatherstrip adhesive behind just the section that is coming loose. Easy-peasy!

[QUOTE=Kona1611;757307]Thank you for all the great advice and suggestions. New development. When I attempted to clean up the weatherstrip on the drivers side door and checked to find how much of it was still attached the whole strip of weatherstrip peeled right off. I marked the spot on the bottom of the door frame on my ZR2 where the weatherstrip first attached, however above the door the weather strip did not extend to the corner of the door frame opening. Should it extend all the way to that corner? I am including a picture to try to show what area I am asking about. I hope that will clear up my question.

Default Still drips

I have reattached the weatherstrip using the 3m product that was recommended. I have done a water test a few times and if it leaks I let the whole area dry out real well and apply more adhesive. Then I let that dry/seal for 2 days or more. I have done this process a few times now. I just did another water test and it still has leaks. Is this product not the correct one? Is there something else I should be doing? I have been told to change the door pins. The doors dont seem loose at all. Another suggestion I have heard was to bend the door. That seems extreme. I am open to suggestions. Thank you for your help.

The weatherstrip appears to be working and keeping out water. I have discovered a new problem though. On both of my doors the grommets that hold the pins in are broken. I plan to replace the pins on both of my doors. has anyone replaced those pins? I have a 2002 Chevy Blazer ZR2. I would like to know the model or part number for my replacement pins as well as how to remove and reattach the spring in my doors. I have attached a pic of the spring. Thank you all again for any and all of your help.

Replacing the door pins is a rite of passage for Blazer owners. The easiest method I've found is to support the door (from above if possible). A couple ratchet straps hanging from above work really well for this as you can adjust the height and angle. If the pin holes are ovaled out from wear, you may need oversized bushings or even to repair the holes, depending on how worn out they are.

For removing and re-installing the spring, I highly recommend buying the
door spring removal tool door spring removal tool
. Any place like NAPA, Harbor Freight, or Amazon will carry it, and it will make your life so much easier than trying to pry the spring out with a bar or a screwdriver.
