For you guys that have these baskets, do you leave them on all the time? I just bought a stock luggage rack i have to install on my blazer then going to get a basket to throw a full size spare tire in. I was just wonder if it is ok to have the basket on the roof all the time.

Warthog, you have one of the best blazer's on this forum. Your blaze gives people hope and ideas. I'm really digging it. Good job man.

Personally if you don't have a welder I only see 4 options.

1 don't do it

2 build one bolted together for looks only and never use it for anything heavy.

3 buy a welder

4 get a friend with a welder

4 might be the cheapest and easiest, lol

Could you send me some close up pics of how you mounted it to the roof? I'm looking into building a similar style but maybe longer and mounted directly to the roof would be awesome! Thanks!

i cant get you pics till next week.
i used some angle steel cut up in 8 inch lengths or so. i aligned them to the stock bolt holes on the roof, drilled them then mounted them. i laid the rack on the mounted angle steel then tacked it, remove the whole thing and finished it up. part that i messed up on my first attempt was i assumed the roof was close to level at the sides...was not even close. thats when i changed to the method i mentioned above.

good luck, post up some pics when you get her done.

When I made mine I didnt have a welder and just used some self starting screws, mounted a spare, high lift jack, gas can and 2 coolers. Drove from Salt Lake City to Cedar City for a camping trip (about 3 hours) and had zero problems with it.
Ultimately I say weld it because the screws are an eye sore but until then screwing it down isnt a bad option
