thank god big guy. start off like the rest of the world and get a sub or subs. then get some front speakers amplified. And if you feel the need, get rear speakers

It depends on your music tastes and listening habits but if you plan on keeping the truck for awhile I'd recommend a full sound deadening treatment first to lower the noise floor inside the truck. No matter how you go about it from there it will not have to compete with tons of noise which will help it sound better and help keep from running the volume **** up near distortion levels all the time.
If you're not a big bass head to start with I'd recommend saving money and buying a good set of components and a good amp to power them with. Those along with a good installation will set the base for your music. Think about it, the frequencies subs play are only a fraction (~20hz to ~100hz) of the frequencies played by the rest of the speakers (say ~100hz to ~20khz). From that point choosing and installing a sub stage will be cake.
Just my .02

I have setup a 2-3 year plan....
1. Find a headunit and run oversized amp power wires to my current (cheap @$$ subs)
2. Find a set of components that I feel fit my needs
3. Find matching amps to power subs/components
4. Get 12" sub
5. Get 2 8" subs
6. Custom box with the 8's sealed and the 12' ported
7. Rip out the entire interior and play the dynomat (or similar) game
8. Run new wiring completely Amps-subs and amps to components
Eh... idk... That was just off the top of my head.
And I bet you I could make the 2 8's and the 12 sound hella good

I've seen plenty of quality subs blown by morons who don't know what they're doing as well....
