These door speakers are probably the best bang for the buck.
polk momo - $210
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=4130
This is the best amp for the money and your situation.
JBL GTO755.6ii - $310
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=3126
And this is the best sub for the money and your situation
dayton HO10 - $120
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=295-462
(these subs have been proven performers in the sound quality arena. Personally, I wish I owned a pair of them)
The total brings you to $640. This leaves you plenty of money for install materials and a HU

As an installer, I always liked Alpine speakers for entry level. Good response level, and fairly sensitive, (they don't need tons of power). Pioneer makes decent entry level speakers too. I personally am a Kicker fan for subs (I run 2 10" 1st gen L7 squares), and I am a Die-hard fan of Pioneer for the head unit. I find they are very easy to use, and give great funcionality. You can get a plug in interface for the Ipod for just about any Pioneer or any brand for that matter.
