Default Installing a CB Radio

Anyone ever install a CB radio in there rig? I have a small Uniden pro 520xl with a internal speaker. My dad got it for me many years ago and Ive never installed it. I lost the mic for it. Will any 4 prong mic work or does it have to be for the unit? Also what should I wire it into for power?

just cause a mic is the same amount of prongs doesnt always mean it will work. they are pretty easy to rewire if you find out what wire goes where. i remember way back when they had books on this stuff, probably on the internet now. sometimes you can get lucky, especially if its the same brand mic, if you have one that says uniden on it it might work

if you want to wire it the easy way just put a cigarette lighter plug on it and just plug it into one of the outlits. other wise you are going to have to wire it to the fuse box, probabl to a fuse that shuts off when the truck shuts off so you dont accidentally leave it on all night

pin 1 ground
pin 2 audio
pin 3 ptt
pin 4 recive
this is a great mic and works well and cancels a lot of nose
Astatic 636L noise canceling microphone

the cig plug is a very convenient plug but it leads to issues so it is not recommended to use it as a full time mount just run the wire to the fuse box or tap into your stereo wireing for power off the constant 12 or a switched 12

my install

most mics are common in the wiring, any radio shack will gladly hook you up with a mic, there are also a few cb/radio shops in our area that will
help you out.. check out Auto Outfitters, in Manassas 7220 Nathan ct.

Went to put it in today. Got it all mounted up and ran the wire for the antenna. Now onto wiring up the radio. How do I run it into the fuse box? It has two wires coming out of the radio. One red and one black. The red one has a fuse link. So the black one is ground so I will ground that out on the body. So how do I run the red one into the fuse box?

if u look at hte floor heat duct in the center there is room behind it to run wires and keep them behind the carpet, what i did when i had y cobra in mine, my rci requires 8 gauge straight to battery and a good ground is behind the passenger kick panel use a self tapper and a toothed washer as with new cars you dont want to scrap away the paint the ecoat will get ruined the toothed washer will bite into the metal. i used a inner and outer tooth

i took the red wire and ran it to the fuse box and put it in the "accesory" fuse slot, mine is a 20A fuse so i think that would be large enough
for a cb radio, some also just go straight to the cig. lighter
