New door speakers? stock head unit?
hi all, my 2000 jimmy 4 door has the non bose system and i want to upgrade my door speakers. i have set of 4 6.5 pioneers that i want to put in the doors. they are 4 ohm speakers as most aftermarket ones are. are these going to fry my stock headunit? if the are do i need to run some 4 ohm tweeters in series?. im kinda confused here. i bought a kit from walmart from pioneer that came with a head unit and 4 speakers. i dont really have a need to change the head unit because its still fine . any guidance out there from the audio gurus?

I wouldn't think it would cause any problems. But, if the head unit you bought it better than your stock one why not just switch it out also since you already have one?

cuz the poor buggah has an 00+ gm product - he needs a much more expensive wire harness to replace his stock unit. you can throw them after markets in the doors and it won't affect anything, may not sound the greatest they can produce because its the stock deck. also if u crank that deck too high you'll pop them speakers from the distorted crappy signal to them. Good luck with your project

04+ gm products need the expensive harness, because all the can bus runs through each module. plus the fact of onstar. which dosent matter in the 00 bc its an analog system which can no longer work..but yeah i would have to agree bc the stock radio prob only puts out about 10w a channel.. which is gonna sound crappy.. the aftermarket is prob only gonna put 20w a channel... but youll have a better built EQ. are the pioneers the 1642's???
