Default Parking Brake wire with TV

My buddy is installing a flip out tvinto his 04 Impala. There is a wire that you are supposed to hook up to the parking brake wire so it only works with the p.brake on. We are trying to bypass that feature. If we ground it it doesn't work. If you put it to +12 v, it doesn't work either. We even tried hooking it up to a 5 volt source and that didn't help either. If we hook it up to the p.brake wire, then it works great. The only way we can seem to get it to work without being wire to the p.brake is to ground it for 3 seconds, leave it open for 3 seconds, and then ground it again.?. Does anybody have any idea on how to bypass this? We have a toggle switch hooked up for now, but it looks kinda tacky.

Have you measured the voltage of the park brake wire with brake off/on?

The voltage should be ~12 volts... Unless the park brake light is an LED in the car...

Try connecting the wire to the same wire that's used to get the stereo to power up...

mine is grounded out, but the only reason i did that was because it was a pain to get to my brake and i dont watch dvds in my car, thats what my house is for, i wouldnt reccomend bypassing that feature though, theres a reason they dont want you to be able ot watch dvds while driving, not sure why though... but as far as i know most should just use the ground because i think thats all the parking brake switch uses.

The model number would definately help us. For units that just require you to engage the brake, they usually can just be grounded. Others (like Jensen/Phase Linear, you know, the cheap crap) require a sequence of having the brake on and off a certain number of times. If that's the case, you can permanently bypass those with a code but it will reset when the unit has no power ie changing the battery, unclipping the harness, etc.
