speakers blown??
I was listening to my system today and all of the sudden my subs seemed to stop working and I was smelling a pretty bad burning smell, does this mean they are blown? if so when I buy more can I just put 1 in my dual 12" box and use the other opening as a port? please let me know.
really the best way to see if the subs are bad is to pull them out and check the terminals with a DMM set to ohms. if it is a 4 ohm voice coil, should read about 3.7. Just make sure to put the test leads of dmm together to zero it out.
And for second question, putting a single in for two doubles is not the best idea. sub will act as if the box is a lot larger, and could bottom out.

well found out what was wrong... subs blew...bad, I fried the livingcrap out of em, went back to wal mart where I purchased them and the manager approved the exchange, got 2 more and hooked em up and now I'm back in business.
