Try heat and a scraper/ wire brush.

 

That's one of the primary reasons I'm going to all the lengths I am for my car. I like the modern tech, I just want something simpler that I can take back to CA if I ever go back.

 

Taking off the excess, I am just using a scraper, but to remove the bolts that were covered in it was a different story. That stuff worked the same as those rubber discs they sell to remove stubborn caps on jars. When you try to unscrew them, it wraps tighter around the bolt. After a lot of swearing, and almost throwing out my back, they are all removed. Even my impact gun had issues trying to get them out!!!

 

Well, the interior is about done. Waiting on a second set of hands to come over and help remove the brakes, steering column, and headboard. That should do it for the inside.

I will start taking out the gas tank, transmission, and transfer case tomorrow. If I have time after that, I will gut out what I can in the engine compartment.

 

How long dis it take you to pull the dash and climate controls? Are you gonna put the AC back in?

 

With the help of a friend, a few large cans of red bull, and motivational music blasting....for the entire dash and heating/ac unit removal took about 2.5 hours.

I will not be using the factory heater or AC. I will be using the AC compressor for a on-board air compressor conversion, and for heat I will be using a Maradyne Stoker Heater. The unit is only 7.5" H x 11.5" L x 8.7" D, compared to the original one (see attached photo).

The original dash is now junk and I will be doing something like this:

 

After I get off a few more rusted on nuts and bolts, and get a few components out, I should be good to go on taking the body off. If anyone has done this, would you know if a few saw horse style brackets with 6X6 cross beams be ok to hold the body up? Keep in mind that the front fenders will be off, along with the hood and doors?

Once the frame has been blasted and coated with POR-15, the rebuild should go much faster.
