It didn't get that hot, but it was hot enough to make me sweat just thinking about it.

Well, I started on the wheels, and they are looking bad. It's going to take a lot to get the surface rust off. Does anyone have any ideas on what to use to strip rust off of something? Like a spray or a compound to spray/rub on and make it easier to strip the rust off?

I hope to have the frame rolling in a week, but I still need to get the motor in working order. I did some price checking for a new air filter, muffler and spark plug. The muffler is surprisingly cheap. $8 at the local tractor supply store. The air filter and spark plug are cheap as well. I can get a low end Champion plug for about $3, and a Briggs air filter for $4.

I also need to get a seat fabricated. I'm going to get a piece of 2x12 and cut it to the size I need. Then get some dense foam and cloth and put it all together.

I'm off on Wednesday, so I'll be getting some progress made. More to come.

you could pour some mineral spirits on them and let them soak in it. that or some acid haha. my buddies dad poured muriatic acid on his chrome wheels (the back half) and it worked wonders on getting 4 year old wheels baked with brake dust and some rust because the previous owner kept the car outside its whole life

Hey guys. Sorry I haven't been keeping up with the bike. I've been procrastinating about the whole thing for a while now. It's been about two weeks since my last post.

I now have some progress, though. I'm getting the seat made. I went to Jo-Ann Fabrics and got some vinyl for the seat. I also got some foam and a new piece of wood to make the seat. I got the wood cut and shaped the way I want it, and the vinyl is stitched together. It's going to look a lot like this, but all black.

I have to wait til tomorrow though. The wood that I'm using started splitting right down the middle. I got some left over wood and made some braces and glued and screwed them in place so the split won't get any worse. Gotta wait for the glue to set.

I'm taking pictures of my progress on the seat, and I will post them tomorrow after I am done with it.

Did you get the rust off of the wheels? Know anyone with a sand blaster? That'll take it off!

As a matter of fact, I have not gotten the rust off yet. I have a friend of mine who has a sand blaster, so when he and I both have the same day off (most likely the 1st), I'll take my wheels over to his place to get the rust and paint off.

I just need to get the tires off. Because of sitting for so long, the tires literally fused to the wheels and it's becoming a pain in my rear.

good thing you're getting that new seat made!

sorry, but someone had to say it!!

as for removing the old rubber, try using a hacksaw to cut the tire with. or a disc grinder with a cut-off wheel on it.

i had to do that with a car tire once. the disc grinder is waaaaaay quicker, but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more messy.

I'm trying to salvage the wheels. I don't want to damage them in any way, because I found out that the wheels are just about next to impossible to find. I'm trying to go as original as possible.

I had a SNAFU today with my moms sewing machine. After an inch or so, the thread would snap. I took it to my grandma's and used her $1500 machine. I at least got the vinyl sewed together, and I'll get as much as I can done tonight before going to bed.

No pics tonight, sorry. Tomorrow deffinitely.
