Haha, the blueprints are non-existent. Although he is making a rear bumper just like his for someone soon. He is only charging $200 lol... Usually these things are evolving ideas. We get a rough idea of what we want, buy some metal, hold stuff up where we want it, tack it in place, then WELD THE BAJESUS OUT OF IT. Seems to be working so far lol.

That's so cool! My brother just got his 1st gen. going. Now he is waiting on getting it insured and transferred into his name (original owner lost the title). Starting a family tradition of our own here in Kentucky, also.

Blazinator : Some questions....

I've followed your build of the blue blazer and I could have SWORN you had a body lift, but when I look at the pic of you and your wife's blazers....it doesn't look like you do. They look like T-bar crank and shackle rides. Since I have CRS (can't remember ....), please tell me again what you have for chassis mods...

Can you tell me what tire clearance issues you have if any...? I'd asked you before what you'd trimmed and I have done the same with my Jimmy and am still getting some rub (admittedly, I haven't taken enough off those plastic panels the GMCs have).

All three trucks are awesome.

I'm not planning on bumpers, but I am going to make my own revovery hook mounts on the frame horns front and back and plan on shortening the bumper cover for better tire clearance. If I do a body lift, we will be fabbing some sliders too.

Nice work. The best part is you guys seem to be enjoying your trucks all the time. Can't wait to get mine trail-ready.

Thanks! You are correct sir, it has a 2" shackle / torsion lift and 31x10.5's. I lopped the front valence at the fender for clearance, Like so:

With the stock rims this is the only place it rubbed on mine at ride height (apart from at full lock)

When stuffed (or when hitting a large bump) the outside edge of the front tires graze the inside lip of the fender. To compensate for this I beat that lip up and flush with the inside of the fender. Like so:

That's it...the rear clears the fender entirely with no trimming. I think the front tires still MIGHT rub under a hard turn and EXTREME flex (I mean extreme...I have no bump stops lol) But it isn't enough for me to tell, or to hurt anything. I certainly do not rub under normal driving conditions.

It could be your plastic GMC panels...but mine DOES rub under full lock (turned as hard as possible) on the frame rail and the sway bar when it is connected. Mostly on the sway bar. I just dont turn as hard as I can. Saves the power steering anyway. My wife doesn't seem to mind either.

Hope that answers your question.

Thanks for answering.... I did some looking after I posted my questions and found your specs on the two blazers....

I will probably roll the inner fender lip in as you did, but I've needed to do this before to fit stickies on my hotrods so it's nothing new.

More questions -
What wheels (the 5-spokes) are those on the Sonoma before he switched to the black beadlock sims....? I like. Not the same-same stuff eveyone around here runs like his new ones.

Did you guys use a plasma cutter or was all the cutting done with a 4 1/2 cutting wheel...?

I've got to get some anchor points built soon. When my blazer was totalled and the tow truck used the factory hooks to haul it out of the ditch I decided I'd never use those if I get my next truck out on the trails. It bent a good bit more than I think it should have. A clevis seems to be a much better deal if I can fab up something that isn't too ugly and solid for me to mount them to.

I'm probably going to trim my front valence some this weekend. Just a little at first because you can't add material back very easy....

Thanks again.

The "sixty-eight" style are the ones he had
http://www.kmcwheels.com/hwcr/styles.html

We did the entire thing with a cutting wheel, and mostly a sawzall lol... We REALLY need a cutter of sorts.

I actually have a spare set of the factory tow hooks.... I have been told that 88-98 Z71 tow hooks are much stronger than our factory hooks and bolt straight on if you wanted to keep the hooks. I have been planning on installing the clevis / receiver mounts on my truck(s) soon:

I found cheaper tubes that fit at Tractor supply and Northern Tool. I have 1 already =D
