i worked for a maaco for a lil while and i will agree with the masking. an what you are looking at there is blueing which is totally different from paint. and if you do end up priming it do not use the stuff outta a rattle can. it doesnt sand right and 9 times out of 10 it will hide solvent or water and soon as you paint dries if will pop.

My original plan was based on a paint sample seen online of a color called "gunmetal", but Colt Royal Blue is such an incredible look that I'm willing to shoot 3 color coats plus clear and then buff the hell out of it if I can get half as good as Colt does.
But I don't think I'm good enough to do candy. If I have to include candy blue to get this, I'm screwed.

those lights look good. are you planning on painting in the garage or in some kind of booth, also what kind of paint do you plan on using?

Got a garage we usually use, it's not as clean as a booth but it usually does the job.
"Usually" - that's a total of 3 vehicles. First went horribly wrong, but we learned a lot from it. Second we learned that roughing up the original paint and putting primer on top of that is a Bad Idea, finish looked great for about a year but then the old underlying paint started popping off in sheets. Third turned out great, so we believe we know what we're doing now

Just any ol' LED (w/resistor) - Stock is a small incandescent that's soldered in, I kind of wonder what GM sells to replace it when it burns out ... Anyway, it's not a drop in.

hmmm i guess i'll need to get myself a soldering gun lol

Gott im himmel! Looking at paint colors and just threw all my previous plans out the window. Cobalt blue candy over "tru blue" base ... Breathtaking, eh wot?
ETA - Matt, in case you haven't seen it, Thogert has the best guide I know of on converting to LED - https://blazerforum.com/forum/builds...e-66423/page4/. He has done or is doing every light in his, I've only done the few listed. But those I'm happy to help with
