Looks nice from the pics.................the reason I bought mine was because of the availability of parts............just about anything I need I can order........I just wish I could do the same for my 73 impala and caprice.

 

i dont see one for an 82, would one of the other years work?

it's probably just the finish on the face (brushed alum, wood grain, black, etc.).

match up what matches what you have. you just need to make sure the HL switch area is what matches, 'cause (if i remember right) the wiper switch is there still.

also the area above the heater controls either had a vent-which was an option, believe it or not (my '81 Chev only had defrost & heat, no vents), or a little storage pod (kinda handy actually).


too bad it still wasn't in there.

and i'm sure you're gonna find something that's gonna need to be cut out, and welded back up, somewhere. be sure to post all the goodies you find in your build.

as for the electrical, check out Painless wiring products for a replacement harness. they're not too bad for pricing, and definately worth the money, unless you really enjoy digging through a "rats nest" wiring harness trying to repair it. try doing it on a car that's 40 years old-with the glass tube style fuses.........fun times!

 

yea a 6.2 would have been awesome. although i've heard the 350s were more reliable. the guy that i bought it from tore out a bunch of harnesses from another k5, don't know if they'll work but from what he gave me i priced it out and its close to $300 worth of harness so i'll see what i can do

update: got it moved up to the autotech lab at school tonight, sorry no pics got busy and it got dark, tomorrow hopefully, looking at redoing the seats too, doesn't really matter if they'll bolt up since im redoing the floor supports, what would be a good seat? no leather shes gonna get dirty, chevy 1500 seats? most of the dash will be replaced,

 

other than making sure you run quality fuel to keep the injectors clean (i only run Sunoco Gold diesel in my 'Burb), the 6.2's are pretty durable. and pack plenty of grunt for the trails. i've had almost 12,000 lbs behind the 'Burb, and could hardly feel it pulling away from lights. now on the highways...............well, lets just say, you really need to pay attention to the up coming hills.


if you're gonna fab new mounts, why not just put in some nice racing buckets (good for a 5 point harness)? the newer ones are pretty comfortable, have a HD vynil finish (easy to wipe of the mud), and are nice and light.

 

do you think i could keep those seats in a reasonable budget though? im thinking of just getting some junkyard specials.unless i find a wrecked "ricer" or truck that had them in it. and i figure with a roll bar and being a dune vehicle it wouldn't hurt to upgrade the safety of the vehicle. the 4,5, or 6pts give it a good look. im figuring flooring and interior electrical/dash panels are going to be the most expensive of the project. labor frees though, so that should save a good amount of coinage.

 

new photos, just got her into the shop. found out no fluid in the front diff, probably why the 4wd aint working and sounding funny.

 

For the seats.... try and grab some camaro seats from the 3rd gen or 4th gens.... they are nice and in high demand and flow....

Also Its a good thing you are checking the fluid... god only knows what else is missing...

 

yeah no kiddin...checked the back out too, it was good, they forgot a spacer when they did the lift, so far so good, shes a mean truck, hopefully a dune destroyer when i get done.
