im new and need help
Hello i just found your forum not sure if its the right place to ask this but here i go.i have a 1994 s10 blazer with the 4.3ltr. 5 days ago i noticed a coolant leak. So i drained the system and refilled it. I am pretty sure its the water pump. Ok straight forward for me. 2 days later topped off coolant drove 2 miles came home. Sat for 8 hours then went out. Truck wouldnt start. couldnt figure why. noticed oil dipstick was bone dry, but havent been leaking oil. Next day got i jump started ran it for 40 mins then shut off. Next morning wouldnt start. Bought oil at local store added 2 qts, still no oil on stick. tried in vain to charge battery thinking it wasnt cranking enough. next day added 2 more qts of oil, still none on dipstick. Tried to jump it with no luck, the engine does look to be turning over fine thou i will add. I am very poor right now and this is our only vehicle. Any help would be sooooo appreciated thanx.
You might want to try an honest repair shop. Most places will look at your ride for free and tell you whats wrong. I fanally got ride of my old Blazer when my mechanic figured out what was wrong for me and told me how much it would cost to repair it. (tranny work) He didn't charge me for looking at it but, as a side note me and my family have been going to this place for the hard stuff or the stuff we can't figure out for years. The reason I say this is because you have listed so many things that I might say it's the alternator (why you had to charge it) to it's burning oil (that's why your low but don't have any visible leaks. but 4 or 5 quarts is pretty extreme). I've learned from tough look that it never helps to ask. Wish I could be more helpful and I hope someone sees something I missed.
Welcome to the site, and I have been in your shoes a few times. Where do you live? If it is in central Illinois, let me know and I cna come help you out. No charge, altough you will have to pay for parts.
First things first. Oil, your turck wont start and will shut off if it gets low on oil. Safety feature to save the engine from total failure. Are you sure the dipstick is going into the pan? I have heard of the dipstick tube rusting out and the dipstick slide out the hole and not into the pan. If the dipstick is going into the pan, you need to figure out where the oil is going. It could be that you have a leak, or your burning a lot of oil. Either way you need to make sure you have the proper amount of oil in the truck. Your engine should have 5 quarts to be full. So adding 4 quarts and not showing up on the dipstick is possible, and only having 1 quart in the pan could explain why the engine shut off. The oil sensors are doing there job.
Battery drainage is common when trying to start the engine lots of times. Most autoparts stores can charge it for you. Might be a nominal charge for it. Or maybe you cna borrow a battery charger from a neighbor/family member.

Reread the your post and would like to add the following.
Check your radiator. The oil system on our trucks is a remote set-up. Filter located someplace other then on the engine and in your case I think it is tucked up behind the drivers side headlight. Our trucks also have a oil cooling tank in the radiator, in other words the radiaotr holds a cooling tank and your oil goes through it. The radiator also hold a cooling tank for the tranny. It might be possible for the oil and tranny cooling tanks to have sprung a leak and your oil is going into the tranny. Pull the tranny dipstick, what color is it? Also pop the radiator cap and see if ther is oil in the anti-freeze. In case the oil tank sprung a leak and is draining into the radiator. Oil and water don't mix, and water is typically heavier then oil, so the oil should float to the top. However I am not sure how the antifreeze affects that. If the oil ends up at the bottom, draining the radiator via the peacock valve. Drain it into a containterto see if it has oil in it. This is also way to remove the oil. Peacock valve should be on the bottom of the radiator, last time I used one it was on the drivers side. Careful of them, anymore tehy are plastic. Should be like 1-5 complete turns to remove it.
Keep us posted on your progress. Plenty of knowledgeable people on this site to help you out. It just takes time.
