Id say starter also, the best alternator test is when the car is running disconect the battery if it stays running the alternator is good if it shuts of go to the part store and get a alternator, im sure most people know that though.

The best way to test the altenator is to put a volt meter up to it. disconnect the altenator from the battery line and if it is putting out at least 12V then you are good (depending on the car of course)
