Default 1997 Blazer transmission 27 spline or 30 spline?

I bought a rebuilt unit for my 1997 Blazer 4.3L 4WD 2 Door. I checked the casting #s before handing over the tranny to the guy that delivered it. It was identical... however the tranny that I'm putting in has 27 spline and a rebuilt torque converter I bought has 30 spline. Luckily I didn't get to install the thing and ruin it... the torque converter guy says my Blazer should have 30 spline and that I got the wrong tranny... I'm confused because I verified the casting numbers on the transmission like I said. So did the rebuilder put the wrong input shaft in or is 27 spline what it's suppose to be for that year Blazer?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Wojtek

You are correct. The wrong input shaft was installed. 700R4s and 4L60Es use the same internals except for the valve bodys. 27 spline shafts were used prior to '87 I believe. In fact I used the torque converter off my '88 Firebird when I rebuilt the 4L60E for my '95. So if they have input shaft bins at the rebuild shop, they could get them mixed up and you were the fortunate one that got the short straw.

I would double and triple check your spline count on the input shaft. You don't want to be the one crying wolf. Then start making phone calls. Unless they are real jerks about it I would think they could give you a replacement.

Good luck.

Yea they were really helpful about it. I got the tranny for only $450 + core and I wasn't sure how the customer service would have continued but they are really cool. I did buy it 3 months ago and stalled in swapping it out since I had a lot of things on my plate. They are 80 miles away from me and said they will have the proper rebuilt unit done by next week and will deliver it free.

As for the splines I put my finger on one and counted all the way around hehe. I did double check. I'm just glad it's getting taken care of by them.

Glad it worked out. Guess that's one more thing to check when they bring you the next one.
