2.8l popping
Hi Everyone. Just bought an 1987 S10 blazer 2.8L. It's in great shape but engine is wouldn't run right. Found the timing chain and gear was gone. Replaced them and now it runs like a champ till you push on the peddle. Set the distributor to 10 degrees @ 780 rpm and ran even better, till i power brake it. still popping out the throttle body. What else can i check? Can old gas do that? It has 265000 miles, i'm hoping it's not wore out.

check your vacuum advance or vacuum going to it. ive seen those things just rust up and not move over time. the vacuum source going to it should have no vacuum at idle and then increase as the throttle increases, if that checks out ok pull your cap off and manually supply vacuum to the advance and see if it moves, you can just use your mouth for that one if you dont have vacuum pump
everyone knocks the 2.8 engine, ive owned 3 trucks with them and have had problems with everything but the engines

hmm it might be, i just googled a picture of the distributor. i owned a 83 and a 85 in the past and remember them being vacuum, probably because they were carburated engines. dont really know how to test that. the second half of my advice might be the same though, take the cap off and make sure the wings inside the distributor are moving freely
