Default 2wheel drive transmission in a 4x4

i have a 98 chevy blazer and i need a new transmission , at the junk yard they have many 2wd transmissions and i notice the tail house comes off. would it be possible to remove it and slide the transfer case from the 4x4 from my truck on instead. .

It is possible to turn a 2wd transmission into a 4wd transmission by swapping the output shafts. However, the output shaft must come out of the front of the transmission which requires the complete disassembly of the transmission in the process.
