Default 4.3 motor help needed

1st let me say hi to all

ok, i have a 97 s10 pickup 4x4 with the crappy 4.3
i spun a bearing other than the knock the motor ran fine.
i bought a motor off craigs list, an 01 with a differant intake setup
it did not have an egr, so i swaped intakes from my 97.
the 01 was junk and blew #6 piston whtch cracked the cylinder wall.
just my luck..... ok this is the fun part. with my 97 engine sitting on my stand i flip it and pull the crank then i pull the 01 engine and remove the intake and pull that crank as well. i put the crank from the 01 in the 97
and had to swap the cam timing gear as well because the timing chains are differant between the 2. ok yata yata yata.
i put the 97 back in my truck with the 01 crank and bearing's
i re-use the intake gasket once again and not to my suprise it leaked.
i know because i now have white smoke and my oil looked nice and creamy.
so now i have some water in my oil, i bought a new gasket set
and put it in, mind you i never changed the oil, still has some water in it.
i get everything back together and the truck runs fine but i still have the white smoke and the smell of burning oil..........
no leaks to find, compression test is fine replaced the pcv also.
coolant fine and the oil looks better the longer it runs

can the smoke and smell be caused from the water in the oil and from having the motor upsidedown?

when i swaped cranks i never removed the pistons and all rods spec'd out fine. i have built many motors but never a 6.

did i forget something or is it just burning the crap out?
i have only had it running for about 1/2 hour.
should i rip it apart and check the head gaskets and valve seals?

all plugs are fine not baked and like i said it has good compression.

oh, last but not least, the exhaust flex pipe from the manifold to the intake was never put back on, the 01 did not have this so i cut the fitting for the intake and pluged it when i swaped the intakes.

what help can you bring?
thanks

After you did the intake gasket again you should have did an oil and filter change, that water/antifreeze in the oil will tear your mains out and you will have to rebuild the bottom end again, once you do that, take it for a drive and if it continues to smoke I would check the head gaskets and heads. What color is the smoke, if its white it would be water/antifreeze burning, if its blue it would be burning oil, valve seals leaking or a stuck/ broke or cracked oil ring on one or more of the pistons. Hope this helps

i plan on changing the oil, just wanted to make sure the crank swap went fine before i dumped more $$ in the truck.

but would the water in the oil steam up and blow white smoke and a oil smell?

I forget what the mileage was, but it was shortly after warranty went out, my 92 S-10 4.3 started smoking on start up, vale seals, changed them cured the problem, has not smoked since an its over 160,000 miles.
