Your 2000 has EDI: The CKP generates a 3X pulse, (accurate to 20K+ RPM) and sends it to the PCM. The PCM calculates ignition timing and sends a pulse to the ignition module, (also accurate to 20K+RPM). The module sends a pulse to the ignition coil to fire it. The OEM coil is capable of 40K+ volts, (secondary ignition only uses ~4K). No need to upgrade, it's already overkill AC Delco plugs, cap & rotor and make sure camshaft retard is within specs. Doesn't get any better!

Thanks Captain, good info to know. I burn through caps & rotors every year regardless of what I pay. Really plays with performance & mileage. I'll have to hunt down some AC Delco on Amazon and give that a shot.

Might want to consider having CMP, (camshaft retard) checked, and adjusted if necessary. Spec is zero degrees, (+ or - 2 degrees). If it's out of spec, it will cause premature cap & rotor failure, not to mention affecting performance and fuel mileage.
