Hey guys been awhile since I was here. But I need some assistance in figuring this out . I have an 89 S10 blazer 2wd with a 4.3l. My transmission went out on me a while back and I was able to find a replacement at a local junkyard. I got it in and everything but the linkage at the trans went together. The book says to put trans and column shifter into neutral and hook it up. I get just enough of the bar that comes down from the column to bolt in the set screw but then I can't get it 8n to park and only have a few gears down thru of, drive and 1st and 2nd. There might be drive 2nd and first maybe. Now I know what some of u may be thinking but I made sure not to pull down on the arm from the column and I have no indication on the dash what gear 8m in. Been all over the Internet with very little results. Any input would be greatly appreciated as I am supposed to be moved out by the end of the month
I found that I had the linkage going through the trans bracket upside down, I would try flipping it since it's simple and easy.
I tried that. I ended up putting the linkage on the body side of that bracket but I can't put it into park and I only have 3 gears rev, n, and either drive or OD. I feel it come out of first when I accelerate and into drive or OD but it won't shift down on its own on a hill climb.
Also the trans I pulled was out of a Caprice around the same gen, pretty sure it was an 89, would that have anything to do with why the linkage won't line up? Do I need to find another linkage bar out of another Caprice to make it work?
Is the TV Cable adjusted properly? If it won't kick down, that is usually the culprit. The linkage should be vehicle specific so you would want to use the original from the blazer.
